UFC Fight Night 124

Jeremy Stephens vs Dooho Choi

Stephens is a veteran of the sport. Had 40 fights and he’s still relatively young. Dude has big power in his hands and some great flying knees. Thing about him is though he has moments of greatness and then some real inconsistency although he looked very good against Gil Melendez.

The Korean Superboy is the most unassuming looking mother fucker there is. Baby faced killer. Quick and accurate with a lazer guided missile of a right hand. Got beat by Cub last time but you need your ass kicked now and again to keep you focused. Before the Swanson fight he had three UFC fights and three wins by first round knockout. Just an impressive fighter. Says he wants a title shot before he begins his two year mandatory Korean military service next year, don’t know about that timeframe but the guy is on the right track let’s hope he doesn’t get derailed.

It seems a lot of people and pros especially are picking Stephens to win this one and they keep talking about his power and yeah he does have it but so does Choi. I see Choi winning this one of two ways, Jeremy it aggressive early and gets stung by the power and accuracy of Choi and make him tentative and Dohoo Choi wins the decision or Stephens rushes in and gets KOd. Of course Stephens could blast Choi and knock him out……that’s why they have to have the fight.

Prediction – Choi by TKO (Stephens by TKO)

Uriah Hall vs Vitor Belfort – CANCELLED

Everyone knows Vitor Belfort is. An absolute legend of the sport. An icon. We watched him go from a 19 year old kid to a 40 year old man. How many UFC tournament winners are still fighting today? Feels like a lifetime ago but he’s still here. Not for long probably but still. When he first showed up juiced to the gill destroying everyone like Tank Abbott, Jon Hess and Wanderlei Silva but that was a long time ago. Then we had TRT Vitor who was amazing, but that seems long ago as well.

Don’t like to say it but for sure Uriah Hall has not lived up to expectations of what we saw on TUF. On the show he was brutally good. Truly looked like he could go all the way in the sport. Since then, yeah he has had some good wins but also some losses you maybe wouldn’t have expected. Seems to be two steps forward one step back sometimes but a win over Vitor is a big name on his record…..but we all know it’s not really Vitor, it’s a ghost, a shadow.

So what we know is Vitor is still dangerous at the start of the fight, maybe minute and a half and he still has that left hand he looks to land but they say speed kills and Hall sure has that. Apart from catching him with something I’m not sure what Vitor has left in this fight. Hall punches well, kicks very well and has really good movement and I don’t think Vitor has the style to stifle him enough. I think Hall gets the TKO in the second.

Prediction – Hall by TKO

Paige Vanzant vs Jessica Rose Clark

Paige Vanzant in her first fight in a new weight class and first fight since leaving Alpha Male. I think she just realized how ridiculous it was that a bunch of 5’4 dudes with their shirts off run around calling themselves alpha males. Now she’s at Gracie Barra Portland and it could be a good move since submissions seem to be a hole in her game. We all know that Dana uses any excuse to push Paige and a win here probably puts her near title contention.

Jessy Jess in her second UFC fight after her split decision win over Rawlings. She needs to kick on from here and a win over Vanzant would get her name out there.

Here’s the thing about this fight, although Paige is I believe the better fighter, Jessy is bigger. Vanzant likes the high pace, pressure, get them against the cage and work from there but this could play into Clarks hand. Still though I’m picking Paige to overcome.

Prediction – VanZant by decision (Clarke by decision)

Kamaru Usman vs Emil Meek

Kamaru Usman seems to have a bit of momentum going, he’s saying all the right things and people are paying attention. There’s talk about him being in the title picture really soon. Needs a win over a big name to solidify his claim. I like his attitude, like don’t fuck with me. He first showed up on the Ultimate Fighter contest which he won and he’s being progressing ever since. He trains at Hard Knocks 365 which has sort of grown out of the ashes of the Blackzilians

I like Meek, seems like a fun guy, big personality. He seem to have that Viking blood though, loves the heat of battle and taste of his own blood. He’s a good fighter, very strong and aggressive.

I like Usman in this one, more well rounded. Can use the wrestling to keep Meek off balance, keep him from settling. I think at this point Usman is so focused and he knows what a couple of wins does for him. I think Usman wins a pretty competitive decision.

Prediction – Usman by decision (Usman by decision)
