These are going to be shorter and more rushed than usual, been really busy, apologies to both people who will see this.
Cub Swanson vs Brian Ortega
Swanson an absolute veteran of the sport, been in with them all and only lost to the very best. Exciting as fuck and well rounded to, barely ever been in a boring fight and gives it all every single time.
I don’t want to call Ortega a specialist although his BJJ is the strongest part of his game, top class. Although he’s not a classic striker, he doesn’t mind getting stuck in with looping punches and front kicks, reminds me a bit of a Diaz to tell the truth.
Interesting fight, a lot of people see Ortega as the future but can he overcome the experience of Swanson? Can Cub put pressure on and make it count? You can never count Ortega out of a fight but I think Cub has the experience and style to win this.
Prediction: Swanson by decision (Ortega by Sub)
Jason Knight vs Gabriel Benitez
Easy pick short and sweet, I think the UFC see Knight having a lot of potential, fought Lamas before he was ready and this fight is to get him back in the win column and I think he will do it with a finish.
Prediction: Knight by TKO (Benitez by decision)
Marlon Moraes vs Aljamain Sterling
Moraes back again less than a month after beating Dodson. A beast of a fighter, technically good, fast, strong and hits hard. Dangerous for anyone who wants to go toe to toe with him and a win here does great things for his title shot prospects.
Aljamain is a different style, a good striker but much more unorthodox. Uses speed and agility to escape from bad positions he may find himself in. Strikes into range then goes for the takedown and uses his good sub game.
Who can impose their game plan? Can Moraes work it out and avoid the grappling or will Sterling be able to stay out of danger in his way in? I’m backing my boy Moraes again.
Prediction : Moraes by KO (Moraes by KO)
Scott Holtzman vs Darrell Horcher
The best I can say about Holtzman is that he is solid. Solid striker and solid grappler, nothing spectacular but gets the job done where as Horcher maybe has more variety to his striking game. I think Holtzman should be able to stay out of trouble and win at least the late rounds.
Prediction : Holtzman by decision (Holtzman by decision)
Eryk Anders vs Markus Perez
Eryk Anders is a big strong unit of a man. 9-0 with 6 KOs and knocked out Rafael Natal in under three minutes in his debut. That’s impressive. Brutal puncher who will knock them down then pound them out for the finish.
Perez is another big strong guy though a different style, much more flashy, decent striker and a good head kick. Also 9-0 but with a submission game as well.
To me this is simple enough, if it stays on the feet long enough Anders will eventually connect and could get the finish. Perez needs to get it to the mat where he has the advantage and hope he can catch something.
Prediction: Anders by KO (Anders by decision)
Albert Morales vs Benito Lopez
Benito came through that contender series thing, good fighter, good counter fighter making his UFC debut here. He’s 8-0 and can be pretty spectacular at times. He likes to counter and he has fast hands although he’s not a knockout puncher, he has fast kicks and a nice counter body kick and a sweet counter jumping knee as they come in.
Morales is more of a boxer, more powerful puncher who goes for the big shot, he’s also a pretty aggressive grappler.
For Morales to have success he should close the distance and crowd Lopez against the fence and make it rough, he’s probably physically the stronger man. And on the ground Morales got held down and beat up pretty good by Brett Johns but I don’t think Benito has it in him. I think unless he gets caught and he definitely could, Lopez can keep distance mix up kicks n punches and pick off Morales for the decision.
Prediction: Lopez by decision (Lopez by decision)
